Launch Of Together: Creating A Better World

Summary

This handbook’s purpose for community work is to end gender discrimination. It was formally launched at a special event on June 18, 2014, along with the release of a biography – Truth, Love, Non-Violence: The Story of Gurcharan Singh Bhatia that presented the life of this prominent Edmonton human rights activist and longtime citizenship judge.

The launch featured readings from the authors of the two books and comments from Gene Zwozdesky, the then Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and Jodi Abbott, CEO of NorQuest College. CCS Board Member Judge Bhatia and several of the women who participated in the conversations that formed the basis of the handbook were also in attendance.

Together: Creating A Better World

The Together: Creating A Better World handbook is written by Jim Gurnett and Satya Brata Das. The handbook’s purpose is to eliminate gender discrimination, ending inequality and abuse, removing barriers for women. The goal is to empower women through education and equal opportunities. It is based on gathering input from nearly 200 women in Alberta.

WorkShops

Our workshops are based on core principles found in our handbook. The focus is training women as community activists. A workshop needs a host organization that would work with CCS by providing a venue and recruiting 10 to 15 participants. Informal groups are welcome. There is no cost to the four-hour workshops. Days and times of the day are flexible. Participants receive a small honorarium and child care can be provided. If you are interested in the workshop, please contact us.
